Designing a Digital Home Worthy of Greatness
Redesigned the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame brand and website after 20 years of partnership. New tagline…
That was the challenge when HDF approached our team to create a video for their Annual Breakfast. Rather than focusing on the usual numbers and statistics, our goal was to humanize the process. We set out to show the real people, projects, and partnerships behind HDF's mission and the ripple effect they create throughout Connecticut communities.
It came down to a simple idea: one block can tell a much bigger story.
We followed the journey of a first-time homeowner, two housing developers, and an employee of the Hartford Land Bank. Our video explores how HDF's support creates opportunities at multiple levels– for individuals and businesses alike. One story highlights the life-changing impact of homeownership. The hardships, the victories, and everything in between. The other demonstrates the investment, planning, and partnerships required to create accessible housing opportunities for their neighborhood.
As developer Al Gary put it, “It’s a team.”
Together, these perspectives give us insight on the struggle of affordable housing development, and the generational impacts of the successes.
To bring the story to life, we took a documentary-style approach centered on authentic storytelling.
We weren't going to rely on scripted interviews. This mission required authenticity. We encouraged natural conversations that allowed our participants to share their experience in their own words. Through candid interviews and cinematic b-roll, we connected the personal and the practical, weaving together stories of homeownership, development, and community investment.
The result is a piece that is emotional, yet grounded in real experiences. The people behind it feel like real people. Because, well, they are. HDF’s strength lies in their passion and their humanity. We hoped to have illustrated both.
The finished video serves as both a celebration of what's possible and a call to action for continued support.
By connecting individual success stories to larger community outcomes, the piece demonstrates how strategic investment in housing creates stronger neighborhoods, expanded opportunities, and lasting impact. It's a powerful reminder that meaningful change doesn't happen in isolation. It happens through people, partnerships, and a shared commitment to building stronger communities, one block at a time.
