Hartford, CT - June 6, 2016 – UConn Women’s Basketball promotional spot, “Geno Auriemma: Lord of the Rings”, took home an Emmy® for Best Commercial during the 39th Boston/New England Emmy® Awards this past weekend in Boston.
The lighthearted, sixty second spot features Women’s Basketball head coach Geno Auriemma being interviewed about the team’s ten National Championship titles where he explains that while they are something that they’re proud of, they are not something they focus on. The narration is accompanied by shots of Auriemma wearing the team’s ten championship rings as he goes about a normal day at UConn - working at his computer, speaking to associate head coach Chris Dailey, and trying to pull a ringing cell phone from his pocket among other things.
The spot, which aired during basketball games on SNY, also amassed over 450,000 combined views online.
The spot was developed as a nod to the team’s history making run towards an eleventh National Championship, which the team accomplished in April of 2016.
